It’s been wonderful to have our school community together again, with students, staff and families reconnecting so smoothly.

Children are settling into their new classrooms, building relationships, and getting stuck into their learning. Thank you to our teachers, support staff, students and families for contributing to such a calm, positive start to the year.

As we begin Week 2, our focus remains on strengthening classroom routines, supporting student wellbeing, and continuing to nurture a friendly, inclusive environment for everyone. If your child would benefit from a little extra support as they transition into the new year, please feel welcome to touch base with their teacher.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership, we’re looking forward to another strong week ahead.

Craigburn Connections / Noticeboard and Website Update

  • Email notifications will be sent when new posts / notices are published.

Road Works – Monday 2nd February

Please be aware that roadworks will be occurring on Murrays Hill Road on Monday (2nd February) and may affect access to the school during the day. For further details, please check the notice here.

Acquaintance Evening

We warmly invite you to our Acquaintance Evening on Tuesday 10 February, 5:30–7:00pm.

At Craigburn, we know children thrive when home and school work closely together. This relaxed, friendly evening is a chance to reconnect (or meet for the first time), step into your child’s learning space, and build those important relationships early in the year.

Your child will take the lead on the night, proudly sharing their ‘learning voice’ by showing you around their classroom and introducing you to their teacher. It’s a simple but powerful way to see where they learn each day and hear what they’re most excited about for the year ahead.

You’ll also have the opportunity to meet our specialist teachers from Physical Education, Performing Arts, German, Science, Technology, and our School Garden. These programs add so much to students’ learning, and our team will be happy to say hello and share what’s happening in their areas.

To help everyone settle in, we’re inviting families to arrive from 5:00pm for a sausage sizzle (including gluten-free and vegetarian options) and refreshments. Classrooms will be open from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.

We hope you can join us for this special start-of-year event and another chance to strengthen the wonderful Craigburn community.

Introducing Our New Values

As we begin the new school year, we are pleased to share Craigburn Primary School’s updated vision and values, and how we will be bringing these to life with our students throughout the year.

At Craigburn, our vision is that we grow together through Community, Courage, and Compassion, so every child feels safe, supported, and able to learn.

At Craigburn Primary School, we grow together through

Community, Courage, and Compassion.

Everyone belongs in our caring and inclusive school, where we feel safe, supported, and respected.

We believe in ourselves, face challenges with bravery, and show kindness in our words and actions.

Together, we develop as confident, capable learners who make a positive difference in the world.

School Values

Community
We include and welcome everyone, work together, and take shared responsibility for our school.

Courage
We try new things, keep going when learning feels challenging, and believe in ourselves.

Compassion
We are kind and respectful, care for others, and repair relationships when things go wrong.

These values were developed over the last 12-18months with input from staff, students, and parents through our Governing Council, and reflect what our community believes matters most for children’s learning and wellbeing.

How we are teaching our values

Rather than simply displaying our values, we are explicitly teaching them to students in age-appropriate ways.

For the first 2 weeks, we are focusing on Community, helping students to feel a strong sense of belonging and understand shared routines and expectations.

Teachers will be explicitly teaching and unpacking each value with students through:

  • shared discussions and examples (‘what it looks like/sounds like’)

  • age-appropriate stories, role plays and scenarios

  • classroom routines and expectations (eg greeting others, listening, working together, problem-solving)

  • consistent language across classrooms and specialist settings

Students will also help co-construct what the values mean in their classroom, so expectations are clear, consistent and meaningful.

How this supports learning and wellbeing

Our approach is grounded in evidence-based wellbeing practices. We know that children learn best when they feel:

  • Safe

  • Connected

  • Supported

By using clear values and consistent language, we create predictable environments that support both learning and wellbeing, while helping students develop important social and emotional skills.

How families can support at home

Families play an important role in reinforcing these values. You can support this work by:

  • Talking with your child about how they show Community, Courage, and Compassion

  • Using the same language at home when discussing behaviour and choices

  • Encouraging effort, kindness, and problem-solving

Together, we can support children to grow into confident, capable learners who make a positive difference. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support.

After-School Sports at Craigburn – Get Involved!

Craigburn has a proud tradition of after-school sports, with students from all year levels representing our school with enthusiasm and pride. Over the years, our students have participated in a wide range of sports, building friendships, skills, and lifelong memories.

Our success in school sports wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our parent volunteers, who generously take on roles as coordinators, coaches, managers, and scorers. Their support is invaluable in creating positive sporting experiences for our students.

Participating in school sports fosters a strong sense of belonging, teamwork, and school spirit. It also teaches important values like discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship, helping students develop skills that extend far beyond the playing field.

Information regarding Soccer and Netball to be posted in coming weeks.

For more information, please contact, Nicky Taylor (Deputy Principal).

School Crossing Monitors

Year 5 & 6 students at Craigburn Primary School are given the opportunity to volunteer for the important role of School Crossing monitor to oversee the crossing adjacent to the main school entrance on Murrays Hill Road.

On Thursday 29th January, all Year 5 & 6 students participated in crossing monitor training, conducted by a trained police officer from the Road Safety Section of the South Australia Police. This informative session provided students with key information associated with the role & responsibilities of being a crossing monitor.

Safety, Traffic and Parking

A friendly reminder to families to please follow local council parking rules, especially when using the ‘drop-off and pick-up’ zones on Murrays Hill Rd and Heath Lane.

Please be considerate of local residents when parking close to the school for any length of time. Please note:

  • Local Council Rangers often attend schools unexpectedly to monitor these areas and will issue infringement notices as they deem appropriate.

  • Vehicles entering the drop off / pick up zones (Murrays Hill and Heath Lane) must continue through the zone if a temporary parking space is unavailable – this prevents traffic building up on Murrays Hill Road and Heath Lane.

  • The staff car park is not to be used for the drop off and pick up of children as doing so is dangerous and causes congestion – unless using the disability access park and displaying a permit.

  • We ask parents to refrain from parking in the staff car park after 7.30am in the morning and before 5.00pm in the afternoon. If accessing OSHC please temporarily park in the drop off / pick up zone.

  • Please contact the front office for emergency access.
