Dear Families

Thank you for being part of our school community and supporting our programs and events throughout the 2022 school year. The community support we receive is truly valued and appreciated.

This was evident at our end-of-year celebration night with families and friends coming together to enjoy the fabulous song and dance performances.  A special mention to Jimmy Marin for his excellent coordination of this event and to class teachers for preparing their classes. We hope everyone had a wonderful time and we look forward to seeing you at future community events in 2023.

Year 6 Graduation

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our Year 6 students who graduated from primary school on Wednesday evening at the Capri Theatre. The students had a wonderful time at their ceremony and have great memories to take away with them. Special thanks goes to the Year 6 teachers and support staff who put in a tremendous amount of time and effort into making this event so special and memorable for the students. Again, we wish our graduating students every success in high school and for their years ahead.

Two awards were presented at the ceremony – The Shane Browne and Governing Council Awards.

Shane Browne Award – Shane Browne was an upper primary teacher at Craigburn who was tragically killed in an accident in 1990.  Shane showed great love and kindness in his interactions with children. His special loves were science, music and maths. The Shane Browne memorial garden (at the front of the school) was consecrated a year after his death, with a special plaque laid on 27th September, 1991, with the School Council creating an award in his memory.  The award is presented to a female and male student each year who demonstrate the school values of caring, self worth and responsibility towards others.  The names of past recipients are recorded on the honour board in the front foyer. The criteria used to present the awards are:

  • Upholding and demonstrating the values of Craigburn – caring, self-worth and responsibility.
  • Acting as a positive role model for fellow students.
  • Contributing to the ethos of the school and the student’s class.
  • Preparedness to put in and help out.
  • Foresight and initiative to make the school a better place.

All students and teachers of year 6 graduating students were asked to nominate students based on these criteria.  The students who received the most nominations are this year’s recipients of the award.

Congratulations to Tahnee Morton and Kojo Antwi

Governing Council Award – The Governing Council presents two excellence awards each year to a female and male student who have demonstrated: consistency in performance and behaviour, striving for excellence, accepting challenges and having an exceptional work ethic.

Congratulations to Lillian Song and Zane Thotekat.

Christmas Raffle and Salvos Christmas Appeal

Our sincere thanks to those who donated prizes for the Christmas Raffle and the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal. There were many happy raffle prize winners and the generous food donations will put smiles on the faces of those most in need throughout the festive season.

Facilities Projects

Over the holiday break, the two new decks will be installed adjacent to the Reception and Year 1 classrooms.

Students on School Grounds

Students should not be on school grounds over the school holiday period unless accompanied by a parent. This includes bike riding. The OSHC Vacation program will be utilising the school’s outdoor facilities throughout this time.

Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating

A reminder that the school and OSHC service will be closed if and when the CFS declares a catastrophic fire danger rating for the Mt Lofty District for the day ahead. This declaration usually occurs after 4.30pm with the Minister for Education confirming school closures thereafter.
