On Tuesday the 11th and Wednesday the 12th of August, Sophie H, Nyia M and Ms Fischer, along with 779 students from 187 South Australian schools, attended the 2026 STEM Aboriginal Learner Congress at Adelaide Oval.
The theme was ‘All In: Culture and Future’. We listened to inspirational keynote speakers who shared their education and vocational journeys, with a focus on STEM pathways.
We were also treated to an incredibly explosive science show by Nitro Nat involving fire, sound waves created by didgeridoos, rockets that hit the roof, and a batch of elephant toothpaste!
On day two, Nyia (B11) joined us at the congress, where we heard more inspiring stories from indigenous presenters and attended a hands-on workshop at the Adelaide Zoo. The congress concluded with a performance by Dem Mob – a groundbreaking Aboriginal hip-hop group from the Anangu Pitjantjatjara (APY) lands in remote northern SA.
The congress was an amazing experience and we can’t wait for other students to get the opportunity to attend the congress next year.
